Falling Stars

By Stuart Teather
SOUTHERN Stars had a weekend to forget in State League One competition, going down to Clifton Hill 3-1 at Ross Reserve.
It has not been a good week at the club; the team was already reeling from a 3-0 defeat a round earlier, and coach Ufuk Kubilayhan departed after half a season at the helm.
The game was a must-win for the Stars, who are languishing on the bottom of the table with five points from nine outings, against fellow lightweight Clifton Hill.
But the Stars were chasing for most of the game as Clifton Hill went up 2-0 in the first half, before Igor Arsovski broke through after the break.
There was better news for the Springvale White Eagles, who recorded a 1-1 draw with Pascoe Vale.
The White Eagles are still in the danger zone, however, sitting third-last with nine points to their name.
There were mixed results in State League Two South East, with Heatherton United collecting a win, Dandenong City a draw and South Springvale a loss.
United knocked off Malvern City 2-1 at Bosnia and Herzegovina Centre, taking three points from what was a must-win clash.
The win pushed United into third place, within two games of top side Doncaster Rovers, while Malvern slumped to fifth.
Dandenong City drew 2-2 with Port Melbourne, and South Springvale continued its horror season with a 3-1 loss to the Eastern Lions.
In State League Three South East action, Noble Park United picked up a 3-0 win against Brandon Park, while Springvale City went down 1-0 to North Caulfield.
