ALBERT Briffa’s 1929 Chevrolet Tourer has enjoyed a Cinderella-like transformation, spending years in a garage before being lovingly restored and featured on the silver screen.
Mr Briffa, of Dandenong, bought the car in 1980 from a man in Ivanhoe.
“He had dismantled it to restore and the motor was sitting in boxes. He lost interest and the car hadn’t been touched since he purchased it in 1967. It was one of those projects, he never got round to it,” he said.
It has since featured in Half a World Away, a four-hour feature movie for the ABC, and recent telemovie Fabric of a Dream: The Fletcher Jones story.
Mr Briffa also drove past mayors through the streets of Dandenong in his car for Dandenong’s Australia Day parade, which has since been disbanded.
