A DOMESTIC argument in Dandenong North last week resulted in an exhaustive police search throughout Dandenong and surrounding areas.
Between 1.30pm and 2.10pm on Sunday 21 June, a 26-year-old woman and her 29-year-old de-facto male partner were involved in a domestic argument at their Illawarra Crescent home. Detective Senior Constable Stuart Freeman said as a result of the argument, the man left the premises, while the woman attempted to remove her belongings with the help of a family member.
The male returned a short time later and allegedly drove his vehicle at the family member, Det Freeman said.
The de-facto (partner) was then involved in a physical confrontation with the same family member before he grabbed his partner and attempted to force her into his vehicle.
When the woman tried to escape, the man chased her and forced her into the vehicle and drove away.
Having concerns for her welfare, police conducted an exhaustive search in Dandenong and surrounding areas, calling on the resources of Frankston Police and the Police Canine Unit.
At 3.48pm the de-facto (partner) drove to Wedge Road, Skye, where he parked on the side of the road, Det Freeman said.
A short time later a police patrol approached their location, at which time he fled the scene on foot.
An hour later the police Canine Unit who found the man hiding under a tree in Whiting Court, Skye, took him into custody. The man was charged with various offences including false imprisonment, threats to inflict injury against the victim, conduct endangering person, and threats to kill the family member.
As a result of further allegations of previous domestic violence committed by the man, he was also charged with a number of other offences including recklessly causing injury. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court on Monday 22 June, but was granted bail and will re-appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court on December 1 2009.
