NATURE will be interpreted through ceramics and print in the upcoming exhibition at the Walker Street Gallery.
Two talented regionally-based artists will exhibit new works in Along Nature’s Lines exhibition from 1 to 27 October.
Ceramicist Glenn England, Chisholm Institute Dandenong Head of Ceramics, looks at life from a naturalist’s point of view.
She combines clay and print to celebrate the work of the naturalist in uncovering and revealing the beauty of the fragile environment.
Her fascination with the minutiae of life, the lines, patterns, forms and rhythms of nature both microscopic and macroscopic led her to buy a microscope when she was just 13.
“I had read about diatoms, radiolarian and other microscopic creatures that comprised plankton and was fascinated by these ‘secrets of the sea’. I wanted to see them for myself but unfortunately my small microscope wasn’t powerful enough,” she said.
Printmaker Kylie Watson translates memory, symbols and fragments of the landscape using a variety of papers, embossing and printmedia.
“As an artist I have been investigating the idea of landscape as both an interior and exterior space,” Ms Watson said.
Along Nature’s Lines opening night is 8 October, 6.30 to 8.30pm.
