Eagles suffer finals blow

THE Doveton Eagles crashed out of the Division Three finals with a 28-point preliminary final loss to Mount Waverley on Saturday.
The Eagles had beaten the Mountain Lions in both of their regular season clashes, but they were left ruing an inaccurate first quarter as they suffered their second loss in as many weeks.
Doveton kicked with the advantage of a handy breeze in the opening term at Heatherton’s Ross Street Reserve, but was unable to put any scoreboard pressure on the opposition.
They kicked 1.7 and led by that margin at the first break, but Mount Waverley wasted little time in eroding the deficit and went into halftime with a two-goal buffer.
The Eagles drew within a kick at the last change, but couldn’t hold back the tide as the Mountain Lions stormed home with the wind in the final stanza.
First-year Eagle Adrian Piccioli was gallant, while Daniel Selman, Matt Fristad and Jeremy Weare made solid contributions.
Spearhead Ricky Ramsdale booted two goals, but his supply was cut by Mount Waverley’s dominant midfield unit.
Robert Tighello was the star for the Mountain Lions, while Paul Young led the way up forward with three majors.
Mount Waverley will now play Skye in the grand final this Saturday.
