LOOKING for something to do this school holidays?
Why not get a touch rugby team together and head down to Doveton’s Betula Reserve, in Kidds Road, on Wednesday 23 and 30 September for the Backyard Rugby Challenge.
Victoria Police in partnership with Victoria Rugby Union is bringing its Backyard Rugby program to Doveton.
Outside the school holidays local kids are invited to join in on games each Wednesday night from 4.30pm to 7pm until late October.
Dandenong’s Senior Constable Eddy MacDonald is the driving force behind the challenge, which aims to bring the ‘three Cs’ back to local youths, namely community, culture and confidence.
“We held the same program in Dandenong last year and it was a very successful event,” he said.
“It gives kids other options rather than getting into trouble.”
He said the main thing was for participants to have a good time while creating a positive and proactive community project that young people can get involved in.
“It’s open to all ages and skill levels,” he said.
“We really want to get families involved too.”
As the program does not receive funding participants are asked to pay a gold coin donation to play which will cover food and drinks. For more information contact Sen Const MacDonald on 0408 303 066.
