THE supply of recycled water to residents at Sandhurst by South East Water has brought to life Operation Green Shoot.
The unique program aims to have local residents and South East Water staff working together to pot up to 1000 native shrubs, which will be planted in Marysville later in the year.
The plants are being donated to the Marysville community as part of efforts to re-vegetate the area after February’s Black Saturday bushfires.
The shrubs will be maintained through to December in individual gardens and then transported to Marysville as an early Christmas gift for residents of the small town.
South East Water supplies recycled water to Sandhurst and is sponsoring Operation Green Shoot.
The water company is working with local residents and the Sandhurst Gardening Club on this project. Plantmark, a local nursery, is also lending its support.
Sandhurst Club general manager Bill Laird said Operation Green Shoot followed on from engagement with the Marysville community after the Marysville Sandhurst Charity Golf Day held earlier in the year.
“The fact that we have recycled water at Sandhurst means that we can pot up the plants and have plenty of water available to encourage their growth over spring,” Mr Laird said.
