A MULTI-MILLION dollar redevelopment of Dandenong High School will be underway after works were officially opened on Friday.
Education minister Bronwyn Pike opened stage one of capital works, which has been valued $10 million.
Stage one will see energy efficient lighting, shaded windows and skylights implemented.
Open plan learning spaces filled with natural light will also be built.
Ms Pike said Dandenong High School was the perfect example of the government’s commitment to deliver 21st century schools that would benefit students and their families for years to come.
“This regeneration project signals an exciting time for the local community,” Ms Pike said.
“They can look forward to new and upgraded facilities, the latest environmentally sustainable design, exciting educational programs and modern teaching and learning practices.
“We are supporting the different ways students learn with modern and innovative school design that goes beyond the four walls of learning.”
The school was a finalist in the School Design Awards 2009, which recognised innovative and sustainable design of schools.
