Eat, rest and play at library

THE local library is not just a place to borrow books, check out the exciting things to do over the next month.
Dandenong Library will host a ‘Healthy cooking on a budget’ session on Monday, 12 October, between 10am and 11.30am.
This healthy eating seminar at Greater Dandenong Libraries includes basic cooking rules, how to read recipes, planning nutritious budget meals, grocery shopping and how to maintain a healthy pantry and fridge.
Chef Erik Jorgensen, Victoria’s number one healthy eating facilitator, will be hosting the seminar. The session is free, but bookings are essential, on 9238 1489.
A session on ‘working beyond pension age’ will be held in the library meeting room on Thursday, 15 October, from 6pm to 8.15pm.
The session will cover the following: Reaching pensioner age no longer automatically signals retirement; retirement choices; claiming the Aged Pension, how it is assessed, and your rights and obligations; Pension Bonus Scheme incentives to continue working past 65; income and assets tests; concession and tax issues; other Centrelink services for seniors.

‘Rhythms 2009 America Latina’ will be held on 11 October at the Dandenong Library and on 25 October at the Springvale Library.
America Latina is a quartet formed 10 years ago and comprises talented musicians and singers Rossana Moya, Marta Briones, Rigoberto Briones and Elizabeth Gower.
The quartet plays acoustic guitars and percussion, singing mainly Chilean and Latin American music with their own vocal arrangements.
