A GROUP of Dandenong detectives tended the barbecue in an effort to raise money for Southern Health and an upcoming cycle event.
More than a dozen detectives began a cycling club last year and recently, they began fund-raising for next year’s Woody’s Murray to Moyne Team Cycle Relay Event.
Bunning’s Dandenong lent members of the group a venue and barbecue for a sausage sizzle, which raised $1100.
Detective Senior Sergeant Russell Church said the money would be used for the children’s ward and equipment for neo natal equipment.
The fund-raising is required for participation in the Woody’s Murray to Moyne Team Cycle Relay Event, but Det Sen Con Church said detectives were rapt about helping out the local community.
“We have a really good relationship with the Dandenong Hospital and this is just one way we can support them and give something back to the community,” he said.
Last year, the Dandenong CIU cycling team raised $6750 and hoped to raise even more before they ride the 25hour- 520km trek on 27 and 28 March, 2010.
Det Sen Con Church said the cycling team encouraged anyone who wanted to become a sponsor or donate prizes for an upcoming raffle to do so by calling the Dandenong Police Station on 9767 7444.
The team has already secured a number of sponsors, whose names will appear on each cyclist’s jerseys.
“We would like to thank the local companies who have sponsored us so far,” Det Sen Con Church said.
“They are the Dandenong Plaza, GKR Transport, Ian Stansfield-Smith, Vic Mix, Wriggley’s and Avis Dandenong.”
