THERE may be more than one cause, including poor police presence or other security, for the unfortunate attack by three men on a 22-year-old man and his friend at Noble Park Railway Station late on 3 July (“Brutal station assault”, Star 8 July). Further, the cause of something is not always easy to see on the surface.
In the past I have expressed my concerns and still maintain my stand that one very real source of community violence is the ready availability and constant viewing by both young and not-so-young of extremely violent games on DVD, video and the internet under the deceptive guise of “entertainment”. Many R-rated games should be banned.
Our government and community need to earnestly take this reality “on board” if we are to have any reassurance at all of minimising or even reducing community violence.
