THE CITY of Greater Dandenong is set to receive a share of the Victorian Government’s funding for disability programs.
The State Budget has committed $92.7 million in funding for disability programs to make life easier for people living with a disability, their families and carers.
Minister for Mental Health Mary Wooldridge said people living with a disability in Dandenong would have improved quality of life under the funding.
“Timely, flexible and innovative respite care is critical to supporting carers and will provide primary carers with a break from their caring roles,” Ms Wooldridge said.
“New supported accommodation models will also provide more options for people with a disability to live and participate more fully in the community.”
The funding will allow community service organisations to build and operate up to 50 new places for people needing supported accommodation, she said.
“The government is committed to supporting people with a disability, their families and carers through improving access to services and opportunities to participate in their local communities.”
The statewide package also includes $26.2 million in funding for aids and equipment program subsidies, a $4 million top-up fund for families with children with disabilities and $3.4 million for the Video Relay Interpreting service which provides interpreter and language service.
