POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a vicious assault in Dandenong on Friday morning.
Two men were walking along Lonsdale Street, opposite the Drum Theatre at 5am when they were approached by two other men, described as Maori in appearance.
A 25-year-old man was king-hit and knocked to the ground before he was kicked multiple times.
The other victim, 23, ran off and was chased before being caught by one of the men and struck in the face.
The 25-year-old man was taken to Dandenong Hospital for lacerations to his hands and face.
Police said no weapons were used and it appeared to be an unprovoked attack.
