AN artist is swapping Venice for an exhibition in Dandenong.
Anastasia Klose will arrive at Dandenong’s Walker Street gallery for her exhibition straight from one of the world’s greatest art fairs, the Venice Biennale.
Ms Klose is exhibiting in Dandenong as part of the City of Greater Dandenong’s Nocturnal Winter Arts program and will present a contemporary exhibition, an all-night performance and paint a mural on the gallery wall.
Mayor Roz Blades said she was pleased the council was hosting the up-and-coming artist.
“It’s great to see such a wide range of art available to the Greater Dandenong community – including internationally renowned contemporary artists,” Cr Blades said.
The council’s visual and community arts co-ordinator David O’Halloran said the Melbourne-based artist was gathering a strong reputation in Australia and overseas for her work.
“This may be a different style to what some local audiences are used to,” Mr O’Halloran said. “Her artworks – including video, photocopies and digital photos – are deliberately ‘lo-fi’ and made with a do-it-yourself approach.”
Ms Klose will perform an all-night presentation on Thursday 9 June and the public can see her painting a mural in the Walker Street gallery from 1pm to 9pm on Thursday 16 June.
