Great strides

TYLER Parfuss’s love of all things sweet makes him a normal little boy but he doesn’t understand the huge significance of small things like taking his first steps.
The Noble Park North boy has cerebral palsy and in his four years has made plenty of achievements including completing the Melbourne Marathon last year and taking his first steps only weeks before his third birthday.
Sensory issues on the left side of his body mean Tyler has trouble feeling his leg and foot.
Mum Ashleigh said he doesn’t understand the significance of his first steps but nothing has held him back since.
“He’s now non-stop,” she said.
“He just takes it in his stride.”
A ‘spider man’ second-skin suit and special foot orthotics help him walk.
Tyler joined his friends from the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre at a morning tea on Wednesday 3 August, where he got to catch up with his old buddy, football legend Hawks star Michael Osborne.
“It was good to see Michael again,” Ashleigh said.
“They have this high-five thing they do.”
The morning tea was held to celebrate National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week and celebrated the achievements and milestones children with cerebral palsy had reached during the year.
