THE Southern Stars have emphatically blown away the Western Suburbs to retain command of second position on the Division One ladder.
It took nearly an hour, but when former Victorian Premier League player Joey Di Iorio found the back of the net in the 57th minute, goals began to fall like stars.
A minute later, Di Iorio had his second for the game and the stunned Suburbs had conceded again when Berak Sakaci made it 3-0.
Super sub Mark Newsome decided he wanted a role in the party and made an immediate impact within two minutes of entering the match, scoring the Stars’ fourth.
The win keeps the Stars a point ahead of Whittlesea Zebras, who scraped out a 2-1 win.
THERE were no surprises in Division Two as Dandenong City continued on its winning ways with a 4-1 over Diamond Valley at Partington Flats.
Noble Park had a fortunate handball call in the penalty box fall their way, allowing the visitors to depart with a 1-0 win over Casey Comets.
South Springvale also enjoyed a 1-0 win over the ailing Doncaster Rovers while Heatherton United were thumped 5-2 by Malvern City at Kooyong Reserve.
