THE Dandenong Districts Cricket Umpires Association is looking for men in white to take control of matches in the 2011-12 season.
The DDCUA provides umpires for all turf grades in the DDCA.
Obviously, a keen interest in cricket and a sound knowledge of the rules are necessary, but not so previous senior umpiring experience. Training and support are provided to new umpires, while completing a full training course is recommended.
“We get past players who want to stay involved in the game becoming umpires,” DDCUA secretary Duncan Campbell said. “We get dads who have cut their teeth coaching and umpiring junior games on Saturday mornings, and some of them are pretty good.”
Umpires are paid about $120 a day (noon to 6.30pm). Clubs in the Dandenong, Keysborough, Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Berwick areas play in the DDCA.
The new season begins on Saturday 8 October. Contact Duncan Campbell on 0411 475 755.
