SELIN Sen can mark off two big achievements for this year.
The Mt Hira College student received an ATAR score over 90 and was the first student to go through the school from Prep until Year 12.
The 17-year-old skipped two semesters during her schooling to put her a year ahead of the students she started with in Prep, a move she said was one of the best of her life.
“I’ve been at Mt Hira my whole life,” she said.
“I’ve seen everyone come and go so a lot of the students look at me as a bit of a mentor.”
Even though Selin is moving on from the Keysborough school, she will offer tutoring to students and keep in touch.
“It is a community school so I will always remain part of that community,” she said.
“Because Mt Hira is a new school, people think you can’t succeed there but I want to prove that you can.”
Selin was surprised to receive an ATAR score of 93.3 on Friday morning, which will hopefully allow her to study at Deakin.
“I want to study Law and Commerce at Deakin which needs a 92.3 so I am really really happy.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all.”
College principal Patricia Gay said the school was very proud of Selin’s achievements.
“She started here in 2000 when the school first opened,” she said.
“She’s a great role model. She was primary school captain and secondary school captain and did a wonderful job.”
