HAILEYBURY Waterlions brought back a swag of medals from the Victorian Age Championships in December.
Held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre from 17-22 December, the Waterlions took 10 gold medals, six silver and nine bronze from the event.
Leading the medal tally for the Waterlions was 17-year-old swimmer Samantha Wilkins, who won six gold medals – 400m individual medley, 100m butterfly, 200m IM, 200m backstroke 200m butterfly, 100m freestyle – a silver in the 100m backstroke and two bronze – 50m freestyle and 100m breastroke.
Thirteen-year-old Declan Forster won two gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
Emily Bresnehan, 11, won the 100m backstroke and Ben Schreiner, 17, was the other Waterlion to win a state championship, touching the wall first in the 200m butterfly.
Haileybury finished in sixth at the championships on 1042 points.
