POLICE are trying to identify a woman who snatched five handbags hanging from doors in the women’s toilets at Dandenong Plaza Shopping Centre.
Detective Senior Constable Amy Perrin said the thefts took place between 10.30am and 3.40pm on 16 November.
She said the thief distracted women who were in cubicles then snatched their bag from the hook on the toilet door, took it into the disabled toilet and tipped out the contents.
She took hundreds of dollars in cash, some jewellery and left the bags behind.
Det Sen Const Perrin said shopping centre security acted immediately but could not locate the woman, and police were also unable to find her.
She urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Det Sen Const Amy Perrin at Greater Dandenong CIU on 9767 7487.
