Reid celebrates 500th with best on ground

By DAVID SCHOUT

DANDENONG West veteran Michael Reid celebrated his record-setting
500th game on Saturday July 27 with a best-on-ground, four-goal
performance.

Reid, who has played with the Redlegs for 28 seasons, stepped out
for the reserves against Hallam and helped his side to a 123-point win.

“It was a great day, brilliant weather and spent with mates,” he said.

“That’s what it’s all about, spending it with mates and a great club.

“Like any club you have your good days and your bad days but if
you’re loyal – and I like to think I’m loyal (laughs) – you get lifelong
memories out of it.”

A sizeable crowd came to watch the game, including Reid’s parents, John and Hilary, and cheered him on.

Teammates say Reid’s retirement has been a long time coming, but
the veteran says this season may be it, especially if the Redlegs win
the premiership.

“If that was the case, it’d be a good way to finish,’’ he said.

“I’m still pretty sore from Saturday and I’m hobbling round like an old man.’’
