A BANGHOLME man will climb more than 7000 steps to make sick kids’ dreams come true.
Rik Marchant will tackle the inaugural Stadium Stomp at the MCG on Sunday 16 June to raise cash for Make a Wish Foundation.
“They need funds desperately,” he said. “They can’t grant wishes to 30 per cent of the kids there.”
Mr Marchant hopes to raise at least $500.
The 50-year-old signed up for Australia’s longest consecutive stair climb challenge – more than 7343 steps on the top and bottom seating levels at the stadium – in preparation for climbing Mt Kilimanjaro later this year.
“It’s the trip of a lifetime,” he said.
The Mentone Fire Brigade fire-fighter has been running upstairs, walking up hills and running up hills to prepare – devoting about three extra hours a week to the exercise.
“I’ll do it all – I don’t know if I’ll still be running though!” he said. “I like a challenge.”
