Man fined for assault on Dandenong bus

A MAN who took out an intervention order against a neighbour later bashed him on a bus at Dandenong railway station.

Peter Cipak, 39, admitted to recklessly causing injury and affray
after he and a friend, Darren Younger, boarded the bus and he punched
the man to the head about 3.15pm on February 11.

Cipak’s defence lawyer, Adrian Dessi, told Dandenong Magistrates
Court last Monday that Cipak and Younger drove to the station after a
call from Younger’s “scared” girlfriend. She had claimed the man had
threatened her on the bus.

Mr Dessi said there had been an intervention order against the man for threats against Cipak and Younger and their families. The man had a history of assault, but Cipak’s two blows to his face did not amount to self-defence, he conceded.

“The likelihood of him reoffending is low,’’ Mr Dessi said of Cipak. “He says frustration came over him.”

Darren Younger is yet to face court over the incident.

Magistrate Doug Bolster convicted Cipak on both charges and fined him $1500 for “unprovoked assault on a bus”.
