Chea plea to stop abuse

HUMAN rights abuses in Cambodia have prompted a plea for action from City of Greater Dandenong.
Councillors at their last meeting agreed to write to the federal and state governments and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, seeking action to stop the abuse of human rights of people in Cambodia.
Cambodian born and raised councillor Youhorn Chea moved the motion to put pressure on the Cambodian Government.
On 10 March, he met with 700 Cambodian people, Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus and other MPs at Cambodian Buddhist temple Wat Buddharangsi in Springvale South.
“We share the concerns of the Cambodian community at the recent imprisonment and shooting of garment workers in Cambodia for demanding fairer wages,” Mr Dreyfus said.
