Blackout as car smashes into home

By CASEY NEILL

A CAR ploughed into a Springvale South home on Friday night.
The Toyota LandCruiser struck a power pole and a large tree on Mackay Street, cutting power to the street about 8.30pm on 29 August.
Springvale police Acting Sergeant Leigh Mackey said the four-wheel drive travelled another 50 metres and careered into the brick house on the corner of Mackay and Parker streets.
He said the vehicle struck the living room wall, knocked a television off the wall and damaged five or six stumps.
Act Sgt Mackey said no-one was home at the time and that the investigation into what caused the crash was ongoing.
Greater Dandenong SES unit controller Paul Daniel said this was the second “vehicle versus house job” his crew had attended in two days.
A car struck a garage in Dandenong North on 28 August.
He said SES members, under direction from City of Greater Dandenong’s building surveyor, used an Acrow prop to support the building’s brickwork to allow the car to be removed.
“Once this was completed, an Acrow prop was inserted to support the building frame,” Mr Daniel said.
A United Energy crew also attended the incident and an ambulance took the driver to Dandenong Hospital for observation.
