Gates opens for tender works

A LOCAL company has been selected by Greater Dandenong Council officers as the preferred tenderer to make, supply and install the Springvale Asian Gateway project.
Councillors will tonight vote whether to endorse the officers’ selection – Dura Constructions in Clayton South.
According to the officers’ report, the project’s cost will blow out by $131,515 above its $645,000 budget.
The shortfall will be considered in the council’s mid-year budget review, stated the report.
In a cost-cutting move, the council itself had this year sought to procure some of the gateway’s parts from China after 2013 tender submissions ranged between $945,000 and $1.38 million.
The towering Asian-style gateway to be built on the corner of Windsor and Buckingham Avenue is funded by the council, Springvale Asian Business Association ($200,000) and the state government’s Office of Muliticultural Affairs and Citizenship ($175,000).
