Fun day for lights festival

DANDENONG Market celebrated the Festival of Lights with a free day of family entertainment.
The Diwali Family Day on Sunday 26 October included dance performances from Bollydazzlers, samples of traditional Indian treats and free arts and crafts activities.
Sci Westwood also put a Diwali-themed spin on kids face painting for the day and Henna artist Neetah Shah inked unique designs.
The Kitchen hosted a cooking demonstration of pistachio dessert kesar pista roll and free tastings of other sweets, mithai.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, means ‘a row or series of lights’ and is a time for reflecting, cleansing and celebrating the victory of light over darkness.
A Hindu legend traces Diwali to Lord Rama, a descendant to the Hindu God Vishnu, who returned to his kingdom following 14 years in exile and won a battle against a demon king.
The story told of how people lit up their houses to celebrate his victory.
