DANDENONG students and seniors have forged an unlikely bond over the past 20 years.
Emerson School junior/senior campus principal Dianne Wright has been teaching line dancing to residents at Valley Village Mews every second Monday since 1985.
Students and staff visited the Stud Road retirement village on 20 November to dance with residents and perform a concert for them.
“It is a lovely atmosphere and Thursday marked the 20th time we’ve met,” Ms Wright said.
“Both eras of people look forward to sharing a very special time together, where for just a moment in time, all are ageless.”
Residents put a donation into a jar at each lesson and village management at last month’s event presented a cheque to the specialist school, which caters for children with mild intellectual processing difficulties.
They enjoyed lunch together and then Emerson School principal John Mooney played piano while the students and residents sang as one choir.
