Clampdown on bad road reputation

EXTRA police are out tackling road trauma across Greater Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol Sergeant Scott Roberts said the TAC ranked the municipality in the top six Victorian local government areas for trauma.
“We’ve got funding for additional shifts,” he said.
Until at least the end of May, Sgt Roberts’s officers will be on the road a couple more days per fortnight and police from other areas will bolster their efforts.
He said there’d be spot testing for drug driving and those caught would likely lose their licences.
“Drugs can stay in their system for a long time – probably a lot longer than they think and a lot longer than alcohol,” he said.
Sgt Roberts warned people to bear in mind that alcohol could be in their system the day after a big night out.
He also urged motorcyclists to wear protective clothing and anyone with information about hoon activity to contact police.
“We really want to nip this in the bud,” he said.
