DANDENONG’S Bombardier will receive an order for 21 new train carriages from the State Government in next week’s budget, securing 64 jobs.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams announced the plan on Friday 1 May and said work on the VLocity order would start mid 2016.
The first carriages would serve V/Line passengers by late 2017, she said, and the order would be complete by the end of 2018.
“This investment of more than $250 million will secure a pipeline of work for the Dandenong manufacturing industry and help create 64 jobs,” she said.
The new carriages form part of the State Government’s Rolling Stock Strategy, which is to be released with the 2015-’16 Budget on Tuesday 5 May and set out a long term plan for delivering Victoria’s trains and trams.
The Journal has sought comment from Bombardier and will update the story as it develops.
