Panama Papers scandal hits home

The Noble Park house named in Panama Papers.

A NOBLE Park home has been caught up in the Panama Papers secret finances scandal.
Taiwanese company Apex Optech Corporation’s 58 shareholders listed the unit as their address, the leaked financial documents revealed on Tuesday 10 May.
An anonymous whistle-blower leaked 11.5 million documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca to a German newspaper.
The leak has snared several high profile figures since it was publicised on 3 April.
On Thursday it was revealed that Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was listed as a director of an offshore company and in April British Prime Minister David Cameron admitted he had benefitted from a tax haven fund. Both entities were set up by Mossack Fonseca.
The Panama Papers revealed that Mossack Fonseca registered Apex Optech in the British Virgin Islands tax haven.
It’s not known if the company still exists but Taiwanese business FOCI Fiber Optic Communications International was among its shareholders and remains in business.
The Journal attempted to contact the Noble Park home’s occupant but they did not respond.
