Workers dig in for level crossing removal

Work to remove the South Gippsland Highway level crossing has started.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams on Tuesday 21 February announced that geotechnical investigations for the project were underway in Dandenong and would continue until early March.
“The South Gippsland Highway level crossing causes disruption and delay, and puts lives at risk,” she said.
The investigations involve drilling bore holes between 15 and 40 metres deep to gain a greater understanding of the ground conditions.
“These investigations will give us a better understanding of the ground conditions in the area, and will inform the design and engineering of the level crossing removal,” Ms Williams said.
Scanning and digging activities will also be carried out to identify the depth and position of electrical cables, water pipes and other services.
A specialist team will look for areas of environmental or cultural significance.
