An unlicensed driver was travelling at almost twice the speed limit on the Monash Freeway in Dandenong North, police allege.
The Nunawading Highway Patrol officers allegedly detected the 24-year-old Frankston man travelling at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone about 6am on Saturday 10 June.
They expect to charge the driver on summons with speeding, driving in a dangerous manner, unlicensed driving and failing to accompany police for a drug test.
The intercept was part of Operation Regal, a state-wide focus on road user behaviour and awareness about the importance of drivers taking responsibility for their own actions on the road.
The operation started on Friday 2 June at 12.01am and was to finish at 11.59pm on Monday 12 June.
Police targeted the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries, including speed, driver distraction, drivers not wearing their seatbelts, fatigue, and drink and drug drivers.
