Visually impaired people got behind the wheel to take a spin around Sandown.
The annual In The Driver’s Seat event in Springvale on Sunday 2 July gave visually impaired people an opportunity to drive a car or ride a motorbike.
For most of the participants, it was their first time and they were spoilt for choice with sports bikes, luxury tourers, three wheeled Can-am Spyders and sidecars.
The Warrandyte Lions Club ran the day with help from the Vintage Driver’s Club, the Ulysses Motor Cycle Club, and the ’49 to ‘59 Ford Customline Car Club.
The Melbourne Racing Club provided Sandown and independent driving instructors provided the dual-controlled cars.
The Ulysses Club is a social motorcycle club for over-40s with branches across Australia.
Its members often engage in community events and charity work.
Two Ulysses branches regularly attend this event – The Shearwaters, based in Greater Cranbourne, and the Yarra Ranges branch.
