Burger binge is back

A burger bun made from two margherita pizzas?

Only at Dandenong Market.

Traders are celebrating National Burger Day with 25 limited edition burger creations on Sunday 27 May.

Dandy Pizza’s pizza burger has a beef patty, cheese, fresh tomato, spinach and homemade sauce between its margherita buns.

The Indian stack burger from Thela Indian Street Food will feature rice pancake buns, vegetable samosas, cheese, avocado and lamb keema.

Chicken parma ‘buns’ filled with fried egg, tomato and lettuce will be available at Market Tavern.

Dandee Donuts will be serving a Tim Tam, jam sauce and cream inside two hot Dandee Donuts.

Diners with a sweet tooth can also pick up a lamington burger, a donut ice cream burger and a Monster Burger Shake – a smoothie topped with a cinnamon donut, chocolate sponge, strawberries, toffee, white chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

The day will also feature a burger eating competition with a $500 prize.

On the menu is the Double Chompster – a 900 gram burger including five burger buns, eight beef patties, eight cheese slices, bacon rashers, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce.

Riley ‘Chompamatic’ Murphy came up with the creation for Dandenong Market’s burger specialist, The Grill.

Dandenong Market marketing manager Briony Walker said more than 25,000 people were expected to attend.

“After the success of last year’s Burger Day celebrations, we and the stall holders knew we had to step it up a notch,” she said.

“With double the amount of traders this year, no one will go hungry!”

Visitors can have a Dandenong Market Burger Passport stamped with a purchase at each participating trader to go into the running to win $500 in Dandenong Market vouchers.

The Grill will also be giving away unlimited burgers for one year. Visit the Dandenong Market Facebook page for more information.

National Burger Day will run from 10am to 3pm at Dandenong Market, corner Clow and Cleeland streets, Dandenong, on Sunday 27 May.
