TAFE campuses across Victoria, including Chisholm, will help to train and educate a skilled workforce to underpin growing industries, through the Victorian Government’s Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative.
For Rachael Delaney, this represents the chance to study and gain valuable qualifications where the demand for skilled workers is strongest in local industries.
Through Free TAFE, the Victorian Government will cover tuition fees for 30 priority TAFE courses and 20 pre-apprenticeship courses from 1 January 2019 for eligible students.
Ms Delaney plans to enrol in the Diploma of Nursing.
Ms Delaney always had a strong interest in health and nursing, but having left school at 15 years of age felt that it was not achievable. Course costs were also a major concern.
“I’ve been hairdressing for 19 years. I’ve always seemed to have had at least two jobs at a time and have even juggled three at a time to provide for my family,“ she said.
TAFE has allowed Ms Delaney to pursue nursing, which is not only an interest but also pays much better, meaning that she won’t have to work multiple jobs. Course costs are considerable and she agrees that Free TAFE makes an education accessible.
Chisholm is now taking enrolments for Free TAFE courses that begin in 2019.
Chisholm is offering most of the courses on the Free TAFE list. These include Community Services, Justice, Accounting and Bookkeeping, Disability, Mental Health, Youth Work, Cyber Security, Plumbing, as well as Building and Construction.
