‘Reckless’ rider chased down by police

Two men were arrested after allegedly trying to escape police by mounting a footpath in a stolen motorcycle in Springvale on Sunday 23 February.

The Solo motorbike had evaded police in Dandenong North earlier that night, police say.

Patrolling police officers later spotted a rider and passenger aboard the bike in View Road Springvale about 12.55am.

The pair allegedly tried to drive away by mounting a footpath and riding down Elaine Court.

They dumped the bike in the dead-end court, and tried to escape on foot, police say.

A large number of police were called into the area, with the Canine Unit finding the pair. They were arrested without incident, according to police.

A 39-year-old Clayton man was charged with reckless conduct endangering life, driving in a manner dangerous, theft of motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

He was remanded to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 3 March.

A 20-year-old Silvan man was released pending summons for theft of motor vehicle.
