THREE men have been taken into custody after a police pursuit came to a bruising end in Dandenong South this afternoon.

A suspected stolen blue VL Commodore sedan was crunched between an unmarked police station wagon and a highway patrol sedan just after 4pm at the intersection of Frankston-Dandenong and Greens roads.

At the scene were a dozen police vehicles with officers directing queues of traffic.

Two men, one with a bleeding forehead, were bundled into the back of divisional vans. Another was taken away by officers in an unmarked police car. All three are in police custody.

An eyewitness said he heard a loud bang as he was attending his truck at a nearby car park.

‘‘There was a helicopter overhead as the police circled around the block three or four times,’’ he said.

‘‘Then there was a noise and I saw a cop in the station wagon has just T-boned him.’’

A police spokesman said Stop Sticks — special quills that penetrate a tyre and act as valves to release air at a controlled rate — had been used to halt the Commodore near the intersection.

‘‘The air wing followed an allegedly stolen car through Dandenong this afternoon. The car was spotted around 4pm, having been allegedly involved in a pursuit earlier in the day.’’
