Dog breed laws: no Greater Dandenong prosecutions

Greater Dandenong Council has not prosecuted any dog owners under restricted breed dog laws introduced last September.

City planning director Jody Bosman said since the introduction of the laws, two restricted-breed dogs were euthanased after being surrendered to the council.

Five other dogs were declared restricted breeds after the council made more than 60 inspections of dogs.

Under the laws, councils could seize unregistered dogs of five restricted dog breeds such as pit bull terriers.

In neighbouring Casey, seven restricted dogs were euthanased. Three were destroyed when council officers discovered an illegal pit bull dog breeding ring.
