Safe cyclists to win

SAFE cyclists are getting more than a pat on the back from police this month.

Police will be entering details of cyclists ‘doing the right thing’ into a prize draw as part of a Safe Cycle campaign.

Winners will be in the running for bike-safety prizes such as helmets, lights and drink bottles.

“It’s also important that road users including cyclists see police rewarding behaviour that is compliant with the law, rather than just targeting law breakers,” Sergeant Ally Howard of Dandenong police said. “The people that are doing the right thing deserve a reward and some attention from us too.”

No cyclists have been killed in Greater Dandenong for at least three years but the injury toll is rising.

VicRoads statistics show that seven cyclists were seriously injured in Greater Dandenong last year. Fifteen other cyclists suffered more minor injuries.
