HEIDI Rose Clothing is wearing Dandenong Retail Traders Association’s top annual award.

The Foster Street women’s clothing store was named Central Dandenong Retailer of the Year at the association’s Christmas dinner last Tuesday.

Owner Kathryne Turtan-Lane said her store was an “icon” of Dandenong for 35 years, unique for being a place for customers to “chill out”.

Her store was not a slave to fashion trends, she said. It celebrated curvaceous women’s shapes with colourful garments that were “oddities in the fashion world”.

Ms Turtan-Lane said the store also “nourished the soul” with books, CDs, tarot readings and meditation classes.

The store has survived “dramatic changes” to its streetscape, namely the recent closing of Robinson Street.

Ms Turtan-Lane said her loyal customers were the key to her survival.

“It’s the only place in Dandenong you can do retail shopping and feel nourished. I’d like to see Heidi Rose continue to grow and shine its light.”
