DEFIBRILLATORS, used to revive people under cardiac arrest, will be provided at all Greater Dandenong Council’s sports venues.
The council will fund the potentially life-saving devices at 32 venues at a cost of about $67,000, after a reduced-price bulk deal with St John Ambulance.
Clubs are expected to train at least two members in using the defibrillators, which deliver electric impulses to revive ailing hearts.
The devices have been found to greatly increase the survival chances of heart attack victims.
Greater Dandenong mayor Angela Long said defibrillators at sporting venues were considered best practice sports management.
“Heart attacks are a known risk at sporting events for both participants and spectators,” she said. “Funding defibrillators at all City of Greater Dandenong-owned sporting venues is the best way to manage that risk.”
The Southern Football League rolled out defibrillators at all its venues after a Skye Football Club player collapsed at a game at Dingley Village this year.
Casey Council has also recently announced a defibrillator roll out at its sports venues.
