Cigarette starts Dandenong Creek blaze

CFA firefighters were called to hose down a blaze in Dandenong last Wednesday after a 17-year-old boy’s cigarette butt started a fire which burnt .40 hectares of bushland near the Dandenong Creek off Stud Road. Dandenong crime investigation unit detectives said it was yet to be determined whether the blaze was reckless or suspicious. Police have warned that accidental fires, such as incorrect disposing of cigarette butts, can threaten property and lives. They also warned that it was not only arsonists who could be arrested for fire offences. Picture: Wayne Hawkins
