Re: Plea for more Dandenong city trees
Yes, definitely, and not just any trees. Look at areas in Stonnington Council [Kew, Hawthorn, Malvern, etc], they have great tree-scaped streets which look amazing. Whereas in Dandenong, residential streets have too many different varieties. It looks pretty ugly, especially in the Dandenong South area — there are barely no trees there taking into consideration the amount of pollution caused by the Dandenong Bypass and factory areas. Please look into Dandenong South.

Re: On the warpath over Noble Park footpath
Walking to and from Sandown Park Hotel to the local nursing home was taxing for us even when we weren’t pushing a wheelchair.
The pram crossings on several of the side streets between the hotel and the nursing home are also wheelchair unfriendly as the foot plates of the wheelchair get stuck on the one at Ambrie Crescent at gutter level.
The day we walked the new footpath, bollards were being reinstated in Racecourse Road, which should be a deterrent to drivers rat running. In equal opportunity regulations, there are gradients that have to be adhered to in regard to inclines and ramps to make them disability friendly.
I doubt that this ‘hump’ would pass the criteria. Let’s get it reviewed by an independent arbitrator.

Re: Springvale charity dumping cut under watchful eye
About time! But no fines handed out? Crazy! I’ve been complaining about the dumping at charity bins for five years. In the four worst cases I’ve ever seen, the charity bins were removed and the problem solved.
But, with tip fees having a threefold increase since the carbon tax was announced, it won’t stop dumping elsewhere, such as at Huntingdale train station. Action also needs to be taken with Metro and also dumped bags of rubbish appearing now along main roads which VicRoads is slow to clean up, not to mention all the litter on median strips. We need another campaign like the Do The Right Thing campaign of the 1970s which, I notice, Queensland has reintroduced.

Favouring their own
The Napthine Government is playing politics with school children’s safety, continuing to neglect school safety zones in Dandenong and Berwick, but finding funds for sites in marginally held Liberal electorates.
In a letter last year, chief operating officer of VicRoads, Bruce Gidley admitted that all funding had been expended in the school speed zone lights program.
However, the Napthine government has conveniently found $200,000 for traffic lights outside Edithvale Primary School in the Liberal-held seat of Carrum, and is providing 20 new school zone supervisors in the Liberal held seat of South Barwon.
It is concerning to see ‘pork barrelling’ on the issue of safety around schools. Funding needs to be provided for upgrades around Dandenong High School and Timbarra P-9 College in Berwick.
The Napthine government needs to deliver safety for all school children, not just those who go to schools in marginal Liberal seats.
