Man charged after Springvale drugs raid

By KAREN COOMBS

A MAN was arrested and charged for cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis after a police raid of two houses in Hanleth Avenue and Billing Street, Springvale.

Detective Senior Constable Tim Sullivan, of Dandenong police’s tasking unit, said police raided the ‘‘highly operational and sophisticated’’ cannabis grow-houses on April 18, yielding 180 plants at a wholesale value of about $540,000.

The offender, who is remanded in custody, was also charged with power-theft and the possession and traffic of cannabis.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrate Court on July 12 for a committal hearing. Senior Constable Sullivan said there would be on-going enquiries to identify others who may be involved.
