SEABL: quick rebound for Rangers women

By ROY WARD

THEY may have started slowly but Dandenong Rangers women are beginning to hit form.

The Rangers pulled off two wins from the Anzac weekend beating Frankston Blues 66-60 at Frankston on Thursday night, then beating Kilsyth Cobras 68-57 at Dandenong Stadium on Saturday night.

The win over the Cobras was made on the glass. The Rangers women dominated the rebound count 53-28 with forward Rosie Fadljevic (10 points, 14 rebounds) leading the way.

Rangers guard Amelia Todhunter had a career night from the three-point line, shooting a perfect six from six on her way to 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Todhunter said the Rangers had to adjust to some physical defence from the Cobras in the final term. ‘‘They were really up and in on us.

‘‘We took a few minutes to adjust to it but after that we were fine.

‘‘We weren’t that happy with how we played against Frankston, so players like me wanted to make sure we shot the ball confidently when we got the chance tonight.”

Todhunter added that the her teammates were becoming more comfortable together as the season went on.

‘‘We have started slowly but we really only had a couple of sessions together before the season started so it’s taken us longer to gel together.’’

‘‘We had a bad loss to Knox but we’re getting better with each week.’’

The Rangers women host Brisbane Spartans at Dandenong Stadium at noon this Sunday.
