DANDENONG Thunder has submitted an 11th-hour expression of interest to be part of the next stage of Football Federation Victoria’s statewide competition restructure.
Spokesman Sezar Jakupi confirmed the club submitted the required paperwork last Friday. However, he said the club still had concerns about the controversial National Premier Leagues of Victoria model.
“There’s been discussion among the Victorian Premier League clubs this week, all of that has been taken into the decision-making process. There are some legit concerns as to the financial viability of the model.”
Football Federation Australia set out the NPL model which is intended to create a distinct pathway for young players to the professional ranks.
However, many clubs have expressed concerns over costs which set minimum requirements for facilities, licence conditions for coaches , medical staff levels and a $50,000 licensing fee a season.
Clubs wanting to apply for a licence must do so by July 31. As of Friday the FFV had received more than 30 expressions of interest.
