Skye high after winning debut

LEAGUE newcomer Skye Football Club made a surprising start to the Southern Football League Division Three season, thumping the Doveton Eagles by 49 points at Power Reserve.
With a new coach and a hoard of new players, the Eagles failed to gel as a team and Skye proved a genuine finals contender.
Missing Roger Lumanovski, Jason Delphine and Darren Rustin, the Eagles were definitely undermanned and failed to adjust to the fast tempo set by the Bombers.
Paul Davis made his coaching debut in a match he would rather forget, but admitted Skye certainly surprised.
“They were good, very good, a lot better than we expected,” he said.
“It might take a few weeks for us to gel properly as a team, but it is something we are going to work hard on.”
Sean Wild was prominent for the Eagles in the back pocket and football journeyman Pat Lester made an imposing debut at his new nest.
After replacing last year’s coach Paul Wilson with Davis, the Eagles are under pressure to perform this season.
But the going won’t get any easier for the Eagles, who take on North Kew at Stradbroke Park on 22 April.
