Club takes the city’s pulse

DANDENONG’S nightlife will receive a massive boost when the Pulse Tavern bar and nightclub opens next week.
Situated on the corner of Walker and Thomas Streets, the club will hold 600 people and act as a watering hole for executive and corporate types during the day while aiming to become the south east’s newest entertainment hot spot at night.
The club will open on Saturday, 12 August and tickets for the event are almost sold out, with more launch functions planned to cater for demand.
Nightclub entrepreneur Mitch Brice said his company had invested more than $1 million into refurbishing what used to be the Liquid nightclub since he bought the premises.
He said new health and safety standards meant nine months of work was required to give the venue the overhaul it deserved. As first revealed in the Star in June, Mr Brice said he was hoping to attract celebrity-status bands and performers to the venue and this week he confirmed the venue would open with a ‘whole lot of celebrities walking around’. He remained tight-lipped on exactly who they would be, but said Australian Idol performer Lee Harding would be one of the celebrities.
Aside from the entertainment factor, Mr Brice was keen to promote the club as a safe venue. There will be no smoking in the building and all patrons will be required to scan photo ID into a computer system. Mr Brice said the club had arranged with local police to bring drug sniffer dogs into the building at random to identify dealers and users.
“We are trying to make a nice safe venue for all the nice people out there with nowhere to go,” he said.
An infrared camera system which is able to detect anti-social behaviour and identify offenders even in the dimmest lighting, will cap-off the club’s security.
