Huge expo planned

A MASSIVE business expo to allow Dandenong businesses to showcase their work is one goal of new Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce president Renae MacNamara.
The 30-year-old not-for-profit worker is only the second woman to hold the top spot in more than 20 years.
Ms MacNamara has taken the post from David Carlson who will now serve as vice president along with the Commonwealth Bank’s Phil Smith.
Ms MacNamara told the Star her goals were to build on the services the chamber offered its members, many of them large businesses, while working towards the vision VicUrban and Greater Dandenong council had for central Dandenong’s revitalisation.
Her experience with Vitality Personnel, part of the Australian Community Support Organisation, means Ms MacNamara is well prepared for the chamber challenges.
“The not-for-profit industry is a very competitive one,” she said.
“Each not-for-profit is rated on a five star scale, five being the highest, and if you don’t get at least 2.5 star ratings your business is put to rest.”
Ms MacNamara said she would receive a lot of support over her two year presidential term from her vice presidents Mr Carlson and Mr Smith, as well as from the rest of the chamber team.
Building networks will be another focus as the group this week combined its networking night with the Dandenong Retail Traders Association, and will continue to work with other business groups.
“It is all about business growth,” Ms MacNamara said.
